Karlee Nimmer, a Junior at Kewaunee High School won an award at the
recent Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL)National Leadership Conference.
Karlee traveled to Nashville to participate in the Simply the Best Program where she was among more than 1,700 students from around the nation to attend the conference which showcased their talents as future business leaders.
The awards were part of a comprehensive competitive events program sponsored by the organization. Individuals, state teams, and local chapters could compete in more than 50 events. Karlee participated in the Public Speaking 1 event. This event recognizes FBLA members who are beginning to develop qualities of business leadership by developing effective speaking skills. The content of the four minute speech must be of a business nature and must be developed from one or more of the
nine FBLA goals.
The winners of these highly competitive and prestigious awards were selected from among the top of FBLA-PBL's membership of 250,000 students
and advisers Karlee finished 6th in the nation. Sixth place in a national
competition is a huge honor, but even without the award, she has taken a lot from this experience. After her experience, she strongly encourages other schools and business teachers to form an FBLA local chapter in their school if they don't already have one. Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is the
largest and oldest student business organization in the nation.
Karlee would like to thank her advisor, Betty Schleis for keeping the FBLA Chapter alive at Kewaunee High School and the following local businesses for sponsoring her trip to Nationals.
